Binti is a dark roast that doesn't apologize for its intensity. It doesn't soften itself to be more palatable. It shows up exactly as it is — bold, complex, and unmistakable. That's not a coincidence. That's the point.

Tasting notes: Dark chocolate · Cacao nibs

Producer: Thagu Co-op, Meru, Kenya

Process: Washed · Single-origin · Dark roast

Certifications: B Corp · Direct Trade

Every daughter inherits a world she didn't design — rules she didn't write, a ceiling she can see through but wasn't supposed to notice. Kenyan women have been navigating that architecture for generations, building businesses, farming land, and leading communities. Every bag of Binti supports initiatives empowering Kenyan women to build economic independence, claim leadership, and pass something better to the next daughter.

Brews well as: Drip · French press · Cold brew

Hmm..., I want this to be constructive because everyone's taste in coffee is different. I like full body dark or medium dark roasts. I tried the Binti Dark Roast side by side with my regular dark roast, Cafe Mam. When I opened the beans I took a few long and deep inhalations to let the aromas present themselves. Ai noticed that the beans presented as a little weaker, less complex and full as my other coffee. Then, I made the coffee as per my normsl routine, in an espesso machine with some foamed 1/2 and 1/2. It was likewise, a bit weaker and finished more bitter. Of course, some would like that, so taste is subjective, but to me the beans themselves seemed to lack the body I prefer. Thanks for asking, and please accept this as an honest reaction as you requested. Joey Blum, Sonya's friend.
